Eyewitness : Takeshi Ishikawa: Revisiting Minamata
It’s been more than three decades since W. Eugene Smith created what many consider his greatest photo essay about the environmental and human impact of industrial pollution on Minamata, a coastal town on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. This turned out to be the last major photo essay by Smith, whose portfolio included Life magazine’s classic Spanish Village and Country Doctor picture stories.
