I have a lifelong fascination with aircraft, so when I rode my bicycle past this sliding board in a local park, it immediately caught my eye. The sheen of the curved metal, the dents and dings that come with years of use reminded me of an unpainted airframe that had taken its share of hits over the years. I rode home as fast as I could and grabbed my gear before the last rays of this December day slipped below the horizon. The negative space was used to “polish” the dull metal, and the blanket of drifted leaves added to the feeling of something that once flew but now is permanently grounded.
